I am fascinated by the ways in which the landscape presents itself as a patchwork of textures, patterns and colours, stitched together by robust hedges and stone walls. I try to look at the landscape as I did as a child; when it represented freedom and endless possibilities. Each time I paint, the challenge is to capture the light, whilst at the same time balance texture and composition. Whilst the paintings are inspired by the English landscape, they must also take on a life of their own to justify their existence.I will therefore move between representation and abstraction whilst producing the picture.
I work in both oil on canvas and pastel on board. The pastel work often becomes a mixture of acrylic and soft pastel. The dimensions of the pieces range from small pieces suitable for standard domestic living spaces to larger pieces more suited for corporate environments.
